BOSTON - Motorcycle daredevil and inspirational speaker Doug “Danger” Senecal, who has overcome serious injuries and cancer, was recognized by state Sen. Anne M. Gobi, D-Spencer, Thursday during formal Senate session.

In August, Mr. Senecal, a resident of Wales, which is in Ms. Gobi’s district, broke the motorcycle jump world record with a jump over 22 cars, and he did it on the late Evel Knievel’s 1972 Harley-Davidson XR750 motorcycle.

In addition, Mr. Senecal is a motivational speaker who delivers anti-drug speeches to youths at area schools.

"It was great to be able to publicly congratulate Doug not just for his motorcycle skills but also to thank him for being a positive role model for students as he visits area schools," Ms. Gobi said.

Mr. Senecal spent a month in a coma after a devastating crash, re-learned how to walk after another, and overcame stage 4 cancer. He cites overcoming these obstacles as the inspiration for his message: “Don’t just live. Thrive.”
