DUDLEY – Town Administrator Greg L. Balukonis has announced he plans to resign his position and retire, effective May 31.

Mr. Balukonis’ career in local government service spans 36 years, with the past four years in Dudley.

In his Nov. 1 letter to the Board of Selectmen, Mr. Balukonis said Dudley has been the highlight of that career.

“I cannot begin to tell you how much I’ve enjoyed serving the town of Dudley and the loyalty, respect and trust both the board and community have shown me during my tenure here,” he wrote.

He read the letter to selectmen at the board’s meeting Monday.

“It’s no secret how we all feel about Greg,” Chairman Steven P. Sullivan said. “Greg has been everything we expected and more. He brought a level of professionalism; he brought expertise; he’s brought all his wisdom.”

Mr. Balukonis said he gave more than six months notice to provide the board with ample time to find a successor and to assist with an orderly transition.
