WORCESTER - A customer of D’Iorio’s hair salon on Plantation Street was lucky she avoided a steep fall from her car onto railroad tracks Thursday afternoon.

A chain link fence was all that kept the car from dropping about 40 feet after the driver crashed the car into the fence and most of the way through it.

John D’Iorio, the salon owner, confirmed he pulled the woman from the car. He said she was one of his customers. She was getting her hair done after the mishap.

Mr. D’Iorio said the customer, an elderly woman on medication, had stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake.

Firefighters attached a cable to the car and pulled it out with a rescue truck.
